Bulgaria‘s public TV channel BNT has informed that it is withdrawing from the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark. It is due to the higher participation costs, the budget cuts and the financial problems.
Further financial restrictions are to follow, so the BNT will not be able to organize the national contest, the channel announced in a statement on late Friday.
The countries have joined a list of former contestants who have withdrawn from the contest in Copenhagen due to economic hardship. Serbia, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Andorra have also announced that will restrain from participating also due to financial reasons.
Later, hints on the Bulgarian BNT Facebook page say that after all, Bulgaria may yet compete in the Eurovision 2014 song contest in Copenhagen.
Standart Daily reported that BNT posted the Danish DR site which shows the 37 countries confirmed so far and commented that “They say at Christmas miracles happen…January 10 is the new deadline”.
