The Greek Ambassador Leonidas Chrysanthopoulossaid in interview for Canadian media that the Greek government has reached an agreement with a private company for providing military protection, namely from Academi, which became known for supplying diplomatic security services of US during the Iraq war in 2003.
He also discussed that common practice is the media to receive guidelines on what can be tolerated as content and what cannot be tolerated.
According to him the journalists, which doesn’t meet the “criteria” are being harassed and arrested from the government agents. There was another case with a journalist, who was summarily fired from state television, because he showed the Prime Minister being booed at the October 28 National day celebrations.
The Greek Ambassador underlines that there are a lot of pessimists about the future of Greece and if the current situation continues, necessary actions should be taken to calm down the social motions, because a danger of civil war is impending.
The company Academi, previously known as Blackwater USA is a private military founded in 1997 by Erik Prince and Al Clarck. Academi is currently the largest of the US State Department’s three private security contractors. Academi provided diplomatic security services in Iraq to the United States federal government on a contractual basis.The company also has a research and development wing that was responsible for developing the Grizzly APC along with other military technology.
The rumour about the participation of Greece won’t be the first, as training was provided for the Greek Navy security forces before the Olympic games in 2004.
